Hello everyone!
I hope you guys have had a great December so far. I'm really excited to share more about what went down during the grand finals for Mrs Singapore Chinatown 2022! Our new queens have been crowned and it was really amazing to be back blogging for ERM Singapore again. Thank you so much for having me, and I can't wait for the next pageant in 2023!
For those of you who may have missed the previous blogpost, let me link it here for you so you can have a quick catch-up and join me back here.
Now that you're all caught up, let's get started!
It felt so surreal to be back at Orchid Country Club's ballroom yet again!
This year there were little snack booths - vendors had Muah Chee, Ting Ting Tang (I ate SO much) and Mai Ya Tang, so it was probably really nostalgic for a lot of us. It was nice to see a huge crowd as well, with lots of LED hand-held banners, clappers and the usual banners hanging from the second floor of the ballroom. It was also good to see the queens that I've made friends with after so long, not gonna lie though, it felt nice to be remembered.
Opening number time!
The ladies came out in shimmery dresses. I loved how they sparkled in the light!! But right after they were re-introduced to the crowd, it was time for them to head backstage and the top 5 finalists from the Talent Round to perform and fight for the title: Best in Talent!
Contestant No. 4: Bowie Foong
Contestant No. 6: Zoey Peng
Contestant No. 7: Sofea Su
Contestant No. C03: Cheryl Tan
Contestant No. C06: Jacqueline Leo
It was quite exciting to see changes in costume from the talent round, and I think the ladies did really well on stage and I'm sure the energy from the crowd really helped to boost their confidence on stage!
Next, they joined their fellow contestants again on stage in sportswear!
And it's time to give out some subsidiary awards!

Once that was done, the ladies left the stage and came back in shimmery qi paos!
It was then time to give out more subsidiary awards!

And now, it's time to meet the Top 5 contestants of each category and for the Question and Answer segments! This is always one of the more exciting segments, and one of the segments where I struggle to catch everything they say especially when they're speaking in mandarin (cries in F9).
Classis Mrs Chinatown Top 5 (left to right)
Contestant No. C02: Ellyn Paw
Her question was: If you can turn back time what would you change?
I laughed (like in a good way) when I heard her answer: to not overtime at work. I believe a lot of us would be resonating with her answer so hard right now. We love to get our work done, but she had a point - doing too much overtime at work does lead to a lot of potential health problems, so I can totally understand where she was coming from. Literally one of my favourite answers ever!
Contestant No. C06: Jacquelin Leo
Her question was: If you were to rule the world, what would you do differently?
I'm very sure that I missed the nuances of her answer, but from what I understood, Jacquelin shared that she could advocate better health and beauty efforts. I think we can all agree with the fact that better health really can result in more happiness and thus a better life as well!
Contestant No. C09: Julie Chan
Her question was: Which contestant do you view as the biggest competitor and why?
Julie shared that she felt everyone was equal - she had mentioned how she noticed everyone had put their hearts and souls into the competition and how meeting the ladies allowed her to learn from each of them and how it had enriched her experience.
Contestant No. C05: Anjenia Siaw
Her question was: What makes women better than men?
I always thought this was such an interesting question, but of course, she mentioned the various physical aspects like the ability to give birth and being able to tolerate the pain of periods too. I'm very sure that she had mentioned more than that, but I, unfortunately, could not catch what she had said. But I do remember huge applause so it definitely resonated with the crowd!
Contestant No. C03: Cheryl Tan
Her question was: Do you think it's important to love yourself and why?
I believe we'd all agree with her 'Yes'. Cheryl felt that it was important to love yourself and in order to give love to others, you'd need to give yourself love first. With self-love in focus, you'd be making choices that benefit you so much more.

Contestant No. 2: Alison Wee
Her question was: If you can give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?
Her answer was sweet and simple: Follow your heart. Just persevere and you can achieve all your dreams. I believe she has come a long way and she's been so strong through this entire competition and I think she was an absolute inspiration and example to those who are finding it hard to follow their dreams.
Contestant No. 5: Kartina Kang
Her question was: What do you think are the three main elements required for a successful marriage?
I'll admit: If I had that question, I would have been confused for a very long time, but without hesitation, she answered: love and forgiveness. I thought that was really true, it isn't always easy to forgive your partner when they hurt you, but people make mistakes and it's important for couples to forgive each other and work things out to make their marriage work!
Contestant No. 4: Bowie Foong
Her question was: What do you expect to get out of competing in this pageant?
Bowie shared that she enjoyed the social aspect of the pageant - being able to meet so many ladies from different walks of life and being able to learn something different from each of them to in turn, improve herself as well. Well said!
Contestant No. 7: Sufea Su
Her question was: Which current affair in SG are you most concerned about and why?
Sufea mentioned that Covid was one of the most concerning occurrences in Singapore right now and also expressed her gratefulness to the front-liners who have kept us all safe during the whole ordeal, although it is still on-going, we're almost back to normal and it would not be possible without everyone working closely together. I think all of us can agree that the past two years of Covid has been tough (more for some than others) and we've all come a long way too.
Contestant No. 6: Zoey Peng
Her question was: If you could rub a genie bottle and have 3 wishes, what would they be?
Unfortunately, I didn't catch all 3 wishes, but one of them was for Covid to end; for everyone to just be safe and healthy, and more money so that she would be able to help those are in need of it. I really did wish I caught her third wish though!
While waiting for the results, we had an amazing performance by ERM Queens!
And then, our new queens were crowned!
